The Women's Ministries department co-ordinates training and other activities focused on equipping women for their life and ministry in the church.  Social as well as spiritual aspects of women's lives are covered.

 Training programs

Training has been carried out in a number of regions covering topics such as: Women's role in the church, home management and raising children, Christian women and social work, Family health care, Harmful traditional practices (FGM) .

 

Literacy

The literacy program has started in some areas, with encouraging results.  In one church in Awassa, many people came for registration, and then started in two small classes.  After 3 months, some of them were already able to read and write.

Practical Skills

Training is provided in tailoring and sewing, and further training is planned.  Eleven girls from the Kuriftu orphanage have also received this training

Women's Ministry Training Centre

20 women graduate every two years from the WMTC in Jimma.  The graduates of the WMTC go on to serve full-time within the church, some as paid workers, and some as volunteers. 

Scholarships. 

5 women are supported financially while they are studying at theological college.  70% of their fees are paid by SIM, and the remaining 30% by the Women's Ministries office.                                                                                                                                          Back to top
