Mission

Vision

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet church is inspired by the vision of a world where all peoples have heard the gospel and live in the fullness of life provided by Jesus Christ.

Mission

Our mission is rooted into the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ.  the core of EKHC's mission is thus proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom to the peoples of Ethiopia and beyond to the ends of the earth in accordance with the Great Commission given by Jesus, so that people will receive eternal life, become Christ's disciples, and are fulfilled spiritually, socially, mentally and physically, to the glory of God.

Core Value

EKHC's mission and faith are eternal, the doctrine (core value), on which the mission’s work and the faith are based, remain valid across generations.  The EKHC doctrine is entirely based on the teachings of the 66 books of the Holy Bible.

Evangelism

The very existence of EKHC is to declare the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ for the advancement of the Kingdom of God throughout the nations, colors and languages of the Earth in accordance with the Great Commission given by the Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, Evangelism is and continues to be the major activity and focus of the Church.  Although Ethiopia has been a Christian nation for centuries, there are a large number of people groups that have never heard the gospel message.

Discipleship and Church Growth

This section was established to conduct training on one-to-one evangelism and discipleship strategies. Mission sponsorship training has also been conducted and thousands of people have been registered to contribute to the mission on regular basis.

The section is instrumental for ensuring the sustainability of evangelism and church growth by focusing on the mobilization of local resources.

Missions Work Abroad

In 1998, the Church sent 10 short time missionaries to India and 1,370 people gave their life to Jesus Christ.  Later, a Bible school was established at the request of the Indian Church, and the school is now operating under full Indian leadership.

In 2001 eight short time missionaries, five male and three female, were sent to Pakistan. By the grace of God, 660 people have given their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ through their ministry.  This is the hand of God still at work in the Church.

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church School of Missions (EKSM)

It is the first of its kind in the country, and aims to prepare missionaries for services within the country and beyond.

The training program of the mission school has the following main objectives:

  • Planting evangelical churches among different un-reached tribal groups.

  •  Producing effective missionaries, missionary trainers and lay ministers inside and outside the country.

  • Mobilizing the entire Church by creating awareness on the urgency of going out to the lost in obedience to the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Brief Historical Background

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) was established in 1919 by people who were led by the Spirit of God and who determined to live their life and if necessary give it up for the spread of the gospel.  Whenever we think of the EKHC's history, we remember, with great respect and appreciation, the sacrifice willingly paid by these expatriate and local heroes of the gospel.  Let the name of the Lord be praised for "such a great cloud of witnesses".  The seed they faithfully sowed has multiplied millions of times over the last eight decades.  Nothing could be more thrilling to the servants of God than hearing that the church planted eighty-two years ago has now become the mother of more than 5,740 local churches with close to five million members all over the country.  We praise the Lord for His blessing and for the speed with which the Church grew and multiplied.  The EKHC has strong faith that the future will see even more harvest.  The God who worked yesterday is still at work to pour out His blessing upon His people for His glory.
