The MICAH program, supported by CIDA and World Vision, consists of about 20 projects. The aim is to reduce micronutrient malnutrition in children and mothers, by encouraging dietary modification and diversification. A particular focus is Iron and Vitamin A deficiency. This is addressed by providing Iron and Vitamin A supplements to those who most need them, encouraging people to grow their own fresh vegetables in backyard gardens, de-worming of children, and a campaign of Information, Education and Communication.                                       Back to top

The EKHC runs six clinics, serving communities in the Southern region and Oromia.  These clinics provide primary health care, including Health Education, Nutrition, Sanitation, Immunization, Mother and Child care and treatment of patients.

MEDICAL AMBASSADORS

The Medical Ambassadors program combines development and spiritual ministry in a holistic way which is completely in harmony with the mission statement of the KHC. The key strategy of the Medical Ambassadors scheme is Community Health Evangelism. Three qualities make this strategy unique:

-Integration of Physical and Spiritual ministry

-Multiplication through the training of people who will transform others, multiplying the results from community to community

-Community ownership of the programme, which is directed by the villagers themselves with a minimum of resources from the outside

Ethiopia is 3rd in the world in terms of the number of people living with HIV/AIDS. The number of orphans increases daily, and is now thought to be more than 1Million children.  AIDS is destroying the country's ability to tackle the problem of poverty.  This is a major priority for the KHC.

The EKHC started its first HIV/AIDS prevention project in Jimma, in 1999. In the second phase, projects were set up in Awassa and Dilla, and there are now firm plans to start projects in Addis Ababa and Nazret.

Our major activities in these projects are

Information/Education/Communication (IEC)

- Counseling, Home-based care Psycho-social support, Prevention of

-Mother-to-Child transmission, Reproductive health & family planning Advocacy
