"Let us reach children and win them for Christ and His way before the world gets them!"

Motto of KHC Children Ministry

Children under 12 years of age make up around 55% of the population of Ethiopia.  This means that there are almost 2.5 million children already within the Kale Heywet Church - a big opportunity and a big challenge.

The focus of the Children's ministries department, founded in August 2000, is to strengthen work with children within each local church, recognizing that they are members of both church and community, and can actively participate in ministry today, while being equipped for more effective ministry tomorrow.

Organising Children's Ministry

The majority of local churches do not have organized children's ministry.  The department plans to set up children's ministry committees and superintendents throughout the structure of the church, to ease the work.

Children's ministry activities are being introduced phase by phase, starting in the South West and Central zones.

People are being trained for children's evangelism and discipleship.

Co-coordinators have received training in Kenya, and will in turn train the ministers within the local churches.

Developing curriculum and curriculum materials

The KHC plans to develop a centralized curriculum for children's ministry, adapting existing material from other sources to the EKHC context, or creating new material.

The church has translated "The Wonder Book", "The Discovery Lessons", and other materials.  These are already in use.

Various children's programmers are being introduced, including weekend evangelistic projects, house parties, beach missions, house groups, holiday Bible clubs, counseling and follow-up classes and children's choirs.
